The reports of so called parties taking place at no 10 Downing Street has filled many people with anger. It is anger that I share. At a time when we have asked people to make huge sacrifices those who make the law must be seen to abide by the sprit and the letter of it.
I often say we live in the best nation in the world. A society based on mutual respect and good manners. We pride ourselves on leading the world in the promotion of liberty, justice and equality. Of course we want to do the same for trans rights.
Predictably as soon as the votes were reported my phone began to ring from every newspaper. There is nothing the media likes more than the headlines about splits and rebellions.
Sir David Amess was a hugely generous man who brought dedication and passion to all the causes he championed. We have lost a committed Parliamentarian. I have lost a thoughtful and fun friend.
