Nicky Morgan, Minister for Women visited SERICC to hear what more can be done to ensure that victims of sexual violence get the support they need, after being invited by Thurrock MP Jackie Doyle-Price.
Jackie said, "this Government has made tackling sexual violence a key priority, but the progress we have made in the last four years must be sustained, particularly given the increasing numbers of victims coming forward. We are seeing wide local variations in service provision. I wanted the team to brief NIcky about some of the difficulties that are emerging so that they can be addressed. I want Ministers to give a clear steer about the need for good and sufficient support for victims of sexual violence.
We are fortunate here in Thurrock to have SERICC which is a beacon of expertise. I will ensure that they continue to have access at the highest levels of Government so that we do deliver the best possible support to victims. Post Savile and Rotherham, the need has never been greater."
