This week MPs debated the King’s speech. I spoke about the need for mental health reform and the ongoing challenges regarding Healthcare across South Essex. Thurrock has suffered from the under provision of GP services for decades now. Six years ago the NHS promised us new medical centres to attract more GPs and to house services relocated from Orsett. There has been very little progress in delivery. Having supported the local NHS decision to close Orsett on the promise of better local services, I feel badly let down. We will get our diagnostic centre in Grays but we must also deliver the proposed centre IMC in Tilbury. The NHS is going to have to stop making promises and then failing to deliver. It is unfair to patients. For the last six years we have had circular discussions with local commissioners and they have not achieved anything. The people of Thurrock deserve better than this.
