The Department for Transport has announced that Tilbury Town Station will move to Pay As You Go ticketing by the end of the year as part of a move to roll out this improvement across 200 stations. Passengers will be able to travel as far East as Shoeburyness with the need for ticketing eliminated, making day trips to the seaside at Southend much easier.
Jackie Doyle-Price said, “I am delighted that commuter journeys we be simplified and easier thanks to the introduction of Contactless Pay As You Go ticketing at Tilbury by the end of the year. I have been calling for this improvement to be made locally at our stations for over a decade. We have seen it happen at Purfleet, Grays, Ockendon and Chafford Hundred and I’m pleased to see it happen at Tilbury. It means commuters will automatically pay the cheapest fare for their journey on the day, eliminate the fuss of queuing to buy, as well as having to remember to keep the right ticket at hand for the barriers.
All in all, it will mean easier, stress-free journeys for those travelling to and from work, and for those coming to visit and explore our part of the world.
