Jackie was pleased to welcome the Chancellor to Tilbury again on Thursday. Speaking after George Osborne visited Tilbury, Jackie said,
“I was pleased to welcome the Chancellor to Tilbury again on Thursday. One year ago I stood with him on the roof of the Container terminal, while Perry Glading outlined the Port of Tilbury’s plans for the London Distribution Park. A year later, he visited Travis Perkins new facility at the Distribution Park, due to open in July creating 300 new jobs. It shows how dynamic our local economy is, and how many jobs are being created. IT also shows how the economy is in much better shape than when I was elected in 2010.
Thurrock is the powerhouse of South Essex, and the economic potential knows no limits. The biggest constraint is our road network, something I have pressed the Chancellor on and persuaded him to make money available to improve Junction 30 of the M25. The work has now commenced and Minister John Hayes turned the turf on the project last week. And on Friday, Baroness Kramer came to Purfleet to sign the growth deal which will fund the widening of the A13 beyond Tilbury.
Between investment in the A13, free flow tolling and Junction 30, this Government has done more than any other to get our traffic moving and build the infrastructure to enable Thurrock to grow and succeed. George Osborne understands that you get more bang for your buck when you invest in Essex. You can be confident that a Conservative Government will continue to invest so that we can make Thurrock the best it can be. I will continue fighting for Thurrock.”
