So Boris Johnson is in the twilight of his premiership. Just three years ago he was master of all he surveyed. Elected by an overwhelming majority of Party members he achieved a healthy majority in the 2019 General election, but now it is over. Ultimately lawmakers cannot be lawbreakers and there was considerable anger over so called Partygate. In the end MPs and Ministers had enough of being expected to bend the truth. The Ministerial code is very clear. If you are less than truthful you are not fit for ministerial office.
So the Conservative Party is now in the process of selecting a new Prime Minister. We take our responsibilities very seriously. This country faces difficult times and we need a leader with the credibility and focus to steer our nation through choppy climes. Party members will now choose between Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss. Both have the experience to move into the top job. For my part I will be supporting Liz Truss. Liz has proved her mettle in standing up to Putin in Ukraine. She is a fiscal Conservative who recognises that taxpayers money belongs to taxpayers and that Government’s do not have a right to it. She will bring energy and determination to deal with the economic challenges posed by recovery from the pandemic and war with Russia.
Either way, whoever the Country chooses, the Conservative Party will come together and put the events of the last few months behind us. We simply shouldn’t be discussing parties and sexual allegations while the public are worrying about how to pay the Bills. It is time this Government got serious. And we will.
