Thurrock is probably best known for being home of the Lakeside shopping centre and being at the North end of the Dartford Crossing. It is however so much more than that. Thurrock is also a major industrial and logistical centre. Its location on the Thames and close proximity to London and the M25 means that it is an attractive destination for businesses. The Port of Tilbury is a major contributor to the local economy.
Cobelfret is also thriving at Purfleet, indeed more is landed at the Ports in Thurrock than comes in via Felixstowe or Dover. The constituency is home to major manufacturing business including Unilever and Procter and Gamble. It is also the home of Carpetright PLC.
More recently the Royal Opera House Production Park has relocated to Purfleet and the arrival of the National Skills Academy for the creative industries opens up new opportunities for Thurrock to develop a creative hub.
