About Thurrock
Thurrock lies in South Essex, on the border of London. The constituency extends from Aveley, South Ockendon and Purfleet in the west to Chadwell St Mary and Tilbury in the east, taking in Grays and Chafford Hundred. Thurrock is comprised of the wards Aveley and Uplands, Belhus, Chadwell St Mary, Chafford and North Stifford, Grays Riverside, Grays Thurrock, Little Thurrock Blackshots, Little Thurrock Rectory, Ockendon, South Chafford, Stifford Clays, Tilbury Riverside and Thurrock Park, Tilbury St Chads and West Thurrock and South Stifford

Thurrock is probably best known for being home of the Lakeside shopping centre and being at the North end of the Dartford Crossing. It is however so much more than that. Thurrock is also a major industrial and logistical centre. Its location on the Thames and close proximity to London and the M25 means that it is an attractive destination for businesses. The Port of Tilbury is a major contributor to the local economy.

Cobelfret is also thriving at Purfleet, indeed more is landed at the Ports in Thurrock than comes in via Felixstowe or Dover. The constituency is home to major manufacturing business including Unilever and Procter and Gamble. It is also the home of Carpetright PLC.

More recently the Royal Opera House Production Park has relocated to Purfleet and the arrival of the National Skills Academy for the creative industries opens up new opportunities for Thurrock to develop a creative hub.
